Until January 2017, the Petit Palais is hosting a major retrospective dedicated to the famous writer Oscar Wilde (born in 1854 in Dublin and died in 1900 in Paris). This is the first major exhibition dedicated to him in France. In fact, although he was an ardent Francophile and Francophone, the centenary of his death was not celebrated in France. To make amends for this omission, more than 200 pieces are presented here, mostly from private collections and major museums around the world, including the Musée d'Orsay and the BnF (the French National Library). The public can admire paintings, and some of the author's personal belongings, and also manuscripts, drawings, photographs and cartoons. Some of the objects have come from Ireland, others from England, Canada, Italy and the United States. Further proof of the exceptional nature of this event which you can see only a few metro stations from Green Hotels Paris, the Eiffel Trocadéro and Gavarni.
