The food market of Rungis favors organic foods

At the Rungis international market, the largest wholesale food market in Europe, the construction of a new pavilion, called D6 and entirely dedicated to foods produced by organic farming, is almost over. A fashionable project perfectly matching the demand of modern consumers, the pavilion will spread over 5248 square meters and gather organic products in one place only, rendering the offer more accessible to professionals. Under construction since December 2014, the pavilion ought to officially open in autumn 2015, and markets gardeners will then be able to get their supplies of organic foods of all kind, from fruits and vegetables to meat and dairy products, which are all part of a highly promising and booming field.

A method closely related to the current demand
Fair trade products
under the Max Havelaar label (fruits and vegetables, grocery store products…), certified sustainable seafood under MSC label and horticulture products under MPS label (flowers, plants…) are also currently available at the Rungis wholesale food market. This trend is an indicator of the way of consumption’s evolution and the increasing enthusiasm of modern society for such products. This novelty is aligned with Rungis’ environmental policy, which encourages the use of electrical vehicles, is strongly involved in campaigns against food waste and advocates waste repurposing via the recycling or incineration of biodegradable waste.
