Exhibition: African Routes

In addition to the retrospective "From the Jordan River to the Congo River" dedicated to art and Christianism in Central Africa, the musée du quai Branly focuses now on exchanges within and outside Africa with “African Routes”. This exhibition comes back on the history of this continent, all at once cradle of mankind and provider of raw materials for the other continents, and for thousands of years. To witness this rich past of exchanges, sculptures, paintings, gold and ivory pieces are exposed. They recall the routes by water, sea and overland which contributed throughout the years to the circulation of materials, art works, and contact between men. Visitors can admire on the spot Chinese porcelain from Madagascar, engraved chariots from the Oued Djerat in the Sahara, and also contemporary mixed creations of the Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare.

Exhibition “African Routes”, from January 31st to November 12th 2017.
Open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 11a.m. to 7p.m.
Nocturnal on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 9p.m.
Full rate: €10 / Concessions: €7.
