Exhibition: Kehinde Wiley – Lamentation

For the first time in France, the Petit Palais presents an exhibition of the African-American artist Kehinde Wiley (born in 1977 in Los Angeles). On this occasion, it is an exclusive body of ten monumental works which is exhibited until January 15th 2017, at the same time as the retrospective “The Art of peace. Secrets and treasures of diplomacy”. These works are hung amid permanent collections of the museum, and reveal how the artist has explored the universe of religious iconography. Kehinde Wiley, to conceive its stained glass and paintings, takes inspiration from the masters of classic painting, such as Titien, Ingres, David and Van Dyck. He shapes portraits full of colours and ornaments of young Black and Mixed-race people; anonymous models he met during street castings. The result is striking, it smashes the current pop culture of our society with religion, luxe and politics.

Exhibition “Kehinde Wiley – Lamentation”, from October 20th 2016 to January 15th 2017.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10a.m. to 6p.m.
Closed on Sunday.
