Marion Cotillard and Mélanie Laurent: two very committed green activists
At Green Hotels Paris, we love supporting stars who are committed to environmental protection. Some try to have a green lifestyle, but others go further and decide to fight for the environment. Among them: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Matt Damon, as well as Robert Redford. Two world famous French actresses are also particularly committed to saving the planet: Marion Cotillard and Mélanie Laurent.
Marion Cotillard: green – a real philosophy of life
The Academy Award winning actress (for her performance in La Vie en Rose in 2007) is an active environmentalist. Among other things, she supports the Maud Fontenoy Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works in France and abroad to save the oceans, as well as the Alter Eco (in French) association. Marion Cotillard is also a close friend of Pierre Rabhi, a pioneer in terms of agro-ecology. Moreover, she is particularly committed to Greenpeace; in 2010, she travelled to Congo along with members of the NGO to condemn the exploitation of Africa’s largest rainforest. The actress stayed there for a week, exploring the Congo Basin along with members of Greenpeace France and Greenpeace Africa. This stay allowed them to shoot a 7-part video diary, Congo: Forests on Probation, which documents the plundering of the forests. You can watch it on Greenpeace France’s Dailymotion page (in French). The talented comedian says she has adopted a real philosophy of life, as she said in 2009 in an interview for the ELLE magazine (in French): “I am a true activist in my everyday life. I do all the small things everyone knows about – save water, waste less and recycle, buy responsibly”.

Mélanie Laurent: quiet strength
The French actress and movie director leads a determined environmental fight with what we could call a “quiet strength”. Resolute but calm, the artist raises awareness about the future of our planet; in 2014, she directed – in partnership with the leader of the NGO Colibris (in French) – a documentary entitled Tomorrow, in which she asks the question “What world will our children live in, 40 years from now?”. Mélanie Laurent did not hesitate to pose topless – with only a crab to preserve her modesty – for the FishLove campaign against overfishing. She is also an active member of Fish Fight, an association fighting against the plundering of the oceans. Finally, she campaigns for Greenpeace; in 2009 she travelled to Indonesia to fight against deforestation.
