France opens the Europe’s greatest solar power plant

During the COP21, the opening of the greatest photovoltaic solar power plant came along at just the right time. The 1st December 2015, CEO of Neoen (first independent producer of renewable electricity in France) Xavier Barbaro launched close to Bordeaux, in Cestas, the Europe’s greatest photovoltaic solar power plant. It stretches on 260 hectares, the equivalent of 350 football pitches! Composed of a million of solar panels which will produce on average 350 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year, it has been connected to the network by the RTE (Electric Power Transmission), which will enable it to provide electricity for around 50 000 homes. Thanks to this new installation, the Aquitaine region should surpass the billion of Gigawatt hours (GWh) of solar electricity mark supplied. According to Xavier Barbaro: “The Cestas solar power plant is able to produce electricity 3 from 4 times more than others power plants built in France”, thanks to the East/West orientation of these photovoltaic panels. This eco-innovation highlights the green energy in France, acclaimed by the Green Hotels Paris.
