Coffee capsules go green

A booming industry, coffee capsules have invaded French and international homes. Although this sector is largely dominated by Nespresso, the inventor of this concept and subsidiary of Swiss company Nestlé, its monopoly reduces considerably with the constant increase of competition. World famous ads, uncluttered design, colorful machines, innovative concept... over 5 million capsules are sold daily in France. For the sake of the environment, the major coffee capsules brands like Nespresso, Carte Noire, Lavazza, Senseo, or Ethical Coffee Company have all turned to ecology by producing capsules made using vegetable and starch fibers that are 100% recyclable and biodegradable within six months. A system to collect used capsules has thus been made available to consumers. The capsules are then shipped to a waste disposal and reclamation center, where aluminum is separated from coffee grounds to be resold thereafter. The coffee is turned into fertilizer. An effort hailed by the Green Hotels Paris for this industry, which goal is responsible consumption!
