La Lutherie Urbaine: creative recycling!
At La Lutherie Urbaine (“Urban Instrument Factory”), sort of music laboratory, the watchword is creative recycling. Founded in 2000 by jazz drummer and composer Jean-Louis Mechali, this association offers to give a new life to various second-hand objects – washing-machine drums, pipes, tennis balls, forks, PVC parts, resin, glass and cardboard – by making instruments out of them. The result is quite stunning: funny-looking and crazy-sounding instruments! Located in Bagnolet (North-East of Paris), La Lutherie Urbaine often organises workshops for children and adults, showing them how these quirky instruments are made and played. These classes are a great opportunity to learn to use tools, to craft and play music! Visitors can also enjoy concerts, installation art and exhibitions.
