France opens its first hydrogen filling station
The Conseil général de la Manche (General Council of Manche) has inaugurated France’s very first hydrogen filling station on January 26th in Saint-Lô. The community also acquired five Renault Kangoo Z.E. cars, which are equipped with fuel cell range-extenders. Built by the company Air Liquide, this 350 bar hydrogen filling station will allow drivers to fill their tank in less than five minutes and to travel long distances without emitting any CO2. Indeed, this technology only releases water, since it produces energy by combining hydrogen (in the gaseous state) with oxygen in the air. By 2016, the département de la Manche also intends to acquire a hydrogen-powered fishing boat, 40 cars and three other hydrogen filling stations. This clean transportation program will be complemented by the use of five hydrogen-powered buses in the Urban Community of Cherbourg-Octeville.
