Exhibition: Beaches in Paris seen by Daumier
Over 150 years ago, Parisians already had a kind of Paris Plages (Parisian beaches). But it was very different from today because at the time, people were actually bathing in the Seine river, which is unimaginable now. With summer settling in the capital and Parisians invading the banks of the Seine, it seems to be the perfect moment for the Maison de Balzac to open its exhibition "Plages à Paris selon Daumier" (Beaches in Paris seen by Daumier). The event comprises paintings of the green shores of the river and more than forty original engravings by Honoré Daumier, which are mostly caricatural and humoristic representations of Parisians bathing in the Seine. These lithographies were published in Le Charivari newspaper around the 1840s. They will go with comments of famous authors and extracts of vaudevilles.
Exhibition: "Plages à Paris selon Daumier", from June 20th to September 28th 2014.
Open Tuesday - Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
Full rate: €5 / Concession: €3.50 / Half-rate: €2.50 / Free for the under-14s.
