Exhibition: Napoleon and Paris, Dreams of a Capital
For its latest exhibition, the Carnavalet Museum assumes that Napoleon has transformed Paris, just as the capital has shaped him. We discover the highlights of his political career, from the 18 Brumaire coup d’état (November 9th 1799) to his coronation, from his marriage to Marie-Louise to the birth of his son, all through the Parisian architecture. All along his journey, fountains, markets, bridges, canals or monuments (the Stock Exchange, the Châtelet Fountain, the Vendôme Column, the two arcs de triomphe at the Carrousel and the Etoile, the Temple of Glory) will be erected, emphasizing the prosperity of the “Grand Empire”. Visitors will be invited to discover paintings by Louis Léopold Boilly, Etienne Bouhot or Hubert Robert, as well as caricatures, models from the workshop of Percier or Fontaine, costumes and furniture.
“Napoléon and Paris, Dreams of a Capital” exhibition, from April 8th to August 30th 2015.
Open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
Normal rate: €9 / Free for visitors under 18.
