Exhibition Rosanjin: the art of Japanese gastronomy

Cuisine is an art. It is what we remember from Kitaoji Rosanjin’s work. At the same time painter, calligrapher, ceramist and a cook, he is a symbol of Japanese culinary art.

Considered a genius of Japanese gastronomy, Rosanjin was a true master in his field. He semms to have dedicated his life to a sole ambition: always bring more beauty to Japan’s culinary art. You can admire the way he achieved his goal thanks to an exhibition dedicated to him at the Guimet Museum for its Japanese season. Rosanjin became an emblem of his country’s culture. Thanks to him, the “bishoku” (gastronomy) principle found its true meaning.

Culinary art in its entire splendor
The Guimet Museum highlights the Asian kitchen utensils of Kitaoji Rosanjin that influenced Japanese art of decoration. His collaboration with the owners of the most renowned restaurant of Tokyo enabled him to make his work known, even before the opening of his own restaurants. Food has as much importance as the table on which it’s served, and that’s how clients were able to savor as well high Japanese gastronomy as the refined cutlery created by Rosanjin. Now, it is your turn to admire the ceramic treasures this artist left as an inheritance.
