Exhibition: Araki

By consecrating a retrospective to Nobuyoshi Araki (born in 1940 in Tokyo), the musée Guimet is interested in the art of the Japanese bondage. Master of contemporary Japanese photography, he is internationally famous for its photographs of tied up women according to the Kinbaku’s ancient rules. With more than 400 prints displayed, it’s the biggest exhibition ever consecrated to the artist so far in France. We discover fifty years of work but also the history of this practice which dates back from the 15th century. This event also enables to grasp the range of the themes close to the photographer’s heart, from eroticism to desire and as far as mentioning death. Several sets are unveiled like the one consecrated to the Sentimental Journey which illustrates its honeymoon in 1971 or the one dedicated to flowers.

Exhibition “Araki”, from April 13th to September 5th, 2016.
Open every day, except on Tuesday, from 10am to 6pm.
Full rate: €9.50 / Reduced rate: €7.
