Paris’ first car free day

Paris is readying itself for an historic day on September 27th, 2015. Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, has initiated Paris' first car free day! In order to help make people more aware of climate problems and speed up energy transition, the French capital is going to have five areas that are reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. The bottom of the Champs-Elysées, the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, and also the area around the Eiffel Tower and the centre of Paris from Concorde to the Bastille. There will still be some vehicles authorized to drive in these zones, but only those belonging to residents and emergency vehicles. They will only be allowed to drive at 20 kmh. During this unique day, which has been organized in conjunction with the "Paris sans voiture" citizen collective, there will also be lots of other activities in various areas of Paris. On the Place de la République, for example, there will be concerts, on the terrace in front of Montparnasse there will be a village dedicated to the fishing industry, and the Recyclerie in the 18th arrondissement will teach people how to recycle well. Maison Vélib' will have maps that show Velibbers how to find unusual places in Paris, by bike naturally! This day is part of COP21, the Global Climate Conference which will take place in our capital at the end of the year. It's an initiative welcomed by Green Hotels Paris.

Car free day, Sunday, September 27th, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
