In about thirty shots in black and white, the Pavillon de l’Eau unveils what happens behind the scenes of the sewers of Paris and its 258 sewage workers who daily work there. Every day, they travel around 1,550 miles of pipes installed in the basements, in order to make sure that sewage are carried to the different water treatment plants, set up in Parisian suburbs. Taken by Sélène de Condat, these photographs unveil men and women’ faces in the shadows, who work in a water network inherited from the Haussman period, which can, by the way, be visited. The artist spent six months by their side, to move in this difficult environment but so typical of the city’s history. This free exhibition named “Ici-bas, les égouts de Paris”, is to discover until next May 20th, a few metro stations away from the Green Hotels Paris, the Eiffel Trocadéro and the Gavarni, on the banks of the Seine.
