Exhibition: Brassaï, for the Love of Paris
After Doisneau and Izis, Paris City Hall continues to present exhibitions on great photographers who loved Paris. Among them, Brassaï was undoubtedly one of the most passionate. At age four, he spent a sabbatical year with his father in the French capital, and fell in love with the city. After studying art in Berlin, he moved to the City of Lights in 1924, and quickly became friends with the Surrealists, during the Roaring twenties in Montmartre. An inveterate stroller, he used to walk from one district to another, capturing atmospheres and passersby’s faces, from Bercy to Auteuil. He looked for the city’s night lights, as well as its graffitis, and portrayed its inhabitants with great humility. More than 300 photographs are exhibited until the end of March. A must see.
