Exhibition: Aventures botaniques en Orient
Until next September 12th, the Jardin des Plantes is interested in the botanical treasuries brought back from the East by the botanists of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle—and this for more than three centuries. These researchers have been travelling across North Africa and the East discovering the wealth of these mysterious and little known lands. Visitors can thus admire numerous herbariums which exhibit the beauty and diversity of local flowers and fruits—hyacinths, citrus fruits, tulips, roses etc. This event will delight lovers of flora thanks to the realisations gathered since Joseph Pitton de Tournefort at the beginning of the 18th century until Théodore Monod, not forgetting the Egyptian Campaign. On a side note, this retrospective is organised in partnership with the Institut du Monde Arabe which presents ‘Oriental Gardens, from the Alhambra to the Taj Mahal’ until September 25th, 2016.
