Exhibition: Jeanne Lanvin
The Palais Galliera is dedicating its new exhibition to Jeanne Lanvin (1867-1946) and her extraordinary path in the very enclosed world of Parisian haute-couture. Mademoiselle Jeanne began her career as a milliner in the French capital in 1885, before opening her own shop. She quickly became a major figure of the fashion world, and her only daughter, Marguerite, was her primary source of inspiration for all her creations. In 1927, she created for her the most famous of the Lanvin perfumes: Arpège. The artist Paul Ribe designed the logo displayed on the bottle from a portrait of the couturière and her daughter; this same logo is still featured on Lanvin creations to this day. This unique retrospective was created in close collaboration with the current artistic director of Lanvin, Alber Elbaz. This year, the Maison Lanvin will celebrate its 125th anniversary, which makes it the oldest French fashion house still in business.
