The Aquarium Tropical de la Porte Dorée gets a new look
If you visit Paris with your children, go discover the new course of the Aquarium Tropical de la Porte Dorée. Completely redesigned, it is now equipped with touchscreens, back-lit columns and step stools for the younger audience. Let’s take a closer look at this modern and fun refurbishment.
Thematic courses for all ages
The Aquarium Tropical de la Porte Dorée consists of 4 new thematic courses: “Je me reproduis” (“I mate”), “Je mange” (“I eat”), “J’habite” (“I live in”) and “Je me protège” (“I protect myself”). Thanks to a colour code, they allow visitors to find their way through the large space, according to the information they wish to access on species and their natural environment. Indeed, the aquarium houses no less than 15,000 animals from 750 different races, spread over 84 tanks. From the banks of the lake Malawi to the Indian Ocean, through the depths of the Red Sea, all the small and large sea creatures can be found here.
A more interactive aquarium
Throughout the visit, tourists can learn more about specific topics such as the biology of species and the aquarium operation. The latter are explained in several educational clips lasting from 1 to 6 minutes and broadcast on six new touchscreens. Detailed index cards are also included to discover more about the clownfish or the dwarf crocodile for instance. The columns of the building are now back-lit and raise issues related to ocean protection, like plastic pollution, climate change or water circuits. The aquarium also thought of the younger ones by providing them with sand shaped step stools which were installed in front of the tanks so that they can better discover fishes.
