Since July 1, 2013, night lighting of non-residential buildings is limited all over France. This measure, expected since January 25, should enable the whole country to save energy.

Ministry seems to be determined to stop electricity waste. The fight she leads against night lighting is finally coming to a victory. Every professional premises now have to turn off the lights an hour after the end of their occupation until the day after. For the shop-windows, the curfew is at no later than 1 am. As to the lighting of facades, it can’t start before sunset and lights will have to be turned off by 1 am. Offensers will have to pay a 750€ fine.

An ecological and economic measure
It is possible to make an exception during public holidays or great events. Besides, this measure doesn’t apply to public lighting or to touristic and very crowded zones. However, it will enable the country to avoid emitting 250 000 tons of CO2 and save 200 million euros, which represents the annual consumption of electricity of 750 000 houses. A relieve as well for the economy as for our planet!
