Exhibition: The native forests, arts of equatorial Atlantic Africa
Outside its exhibition “The Aztec Hotel. The Mayan Revival Style in America” that is held until October 8th, 2017, the musée du quai Branly–Jacques Chirac is interested in arts of equatorial Atlantic Africa. 325 works of this huge region are presented, that remind us of the different artistic styles of the Republic of Cameroon, the Gabonese Republic, the Republic of Congo and the Equatorial Guinea. Statues of ancestors and reliquary figures, great examples of traditional African sculpture are exposed coming from Fang, Kota and Punu communities. The retrospective covers the artistic creation of the region from the 17th century until the beginning of the 20th century. It is to discover not far from the Green Hotels Paris, the Eiffel Trocadéro and the Gavarni, across the Seine.
