Exhibition: Sepik, Arts in Papua-New-Guinea
For its new exhibition, the musée du quai Branly focus on the Sepik valley, a huge swampland which stretches in the North of Papua-New-Guinea. This unique place provides a habitat for the population who live on the Sepik river banks or along its tributaries, since 3000 years. In this exhibition, 230 sculptures related to the Sepik valley are displayed. These works lead us to the discovery of the ancestor’s figure, which is a major figure in the universe of these populations. We discover thus that these ancestral figures take several forms: public, then “secret”. The public can discover this mystic and resolutely fascinating universe until January 31st 2016, just nearby the Green Hotels Paris, along the Seine.
“Sepik: Arts in Papua-New-Guinea”exhibition, from October 27th 2015 to January 31st 2016.
Open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 11am to 7pm, and on Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 11am to 9pm.
