Exhibition: The little explorer’s box of delights

From May 23rd to October 7th, 2018, the musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac is hosting the exhibition "The little explorer’s box of delights". This retrospective highlights the notion of otherness found in French and European children's literature. The museum revisits our favourite adventure stories and the recurring stereotypes they conveyed through the many travels of the protagonists. From Robinson Crusoé and his companion Friday to the bourgeois Famille Fenouillard’s unintentional world tour, including Phileas Fogg and Passepartout from Jules Verne's famous "Around the world in eighty days", the exhibition unveils the imperceptible themes to the youngest readers. Racism, Western colonialism, xenophobia, this event reflects on the evolution of the personification of foreigners and exoticism in youth books, from the 19th century to the present day. “The little explorer’s box of delights" is held near the Green Hotels Paris, the Eiffel Trocadéro and the Gavarni.
