Special effects at the Eiffel Tower: it’s showtime!

Until July 1st, the Eiffel Tower is paying tribute to the 7th art with a very entertaining event entitled: “Special Effects: on location at the Eiffel Tower”. Three interactive workshops were designed for visitors (for both adults and children), as well as a candy counter located at the first floor of the monument.

The Eiffel Tower: the cinema’s muse
The old iron lady has been immortalised since 1897, that is to say 8 years following its construction, by the Lumière brothers. Both filmmakers thus accomplished the first tracking shot in the history of cinema, by placing their camera inside one of the Eiffel Tower’s elevator and by filming its ascent up to the top. The shot offers a panoramic view of the Palais du Trocadéro, its gardens and its esplanade, as well as the metallic structure of the monument. Since then, the Eiffel Tower has been the flagship landmark in filmmaking.

Discover the secrets of cinema at the Eiffel Tower
In order to pay tribute to the relation maintained with the 7th art, the Eiffel Tower is organising three playful and interactive workshops. The first one enables the visitors to understand chroma keying, the tool to combine reality and fiction. Tourists and Parisians are invited to walk on a green background. They are then instantly inlayed in a virtual set where they will be seen walking along one of the monument’s girders. A very thrilling adventure! Then, the second experience “Play the acrobats!” reveals the secrets of the high angle shots technique, most commonly used in superhero movies. Last but not least, a photocall awaits you to snap a picture posing in a real film set.

Bonus: A bar with director’s chairs is set-up at the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, where visitors can enjoy ice-cream, pop-corn and other cinema-inspired sweet treats.
