When two fashion giants talk through their creations… The galerie Azzedine Alaïa in Paris invites fashionistas and other fashion lovers to discover a fantastic exhibition around the creations of Cristobal Balenciaga and Azzedine Alaïa running from May 20 to June 28, 2020 and named Alaïa et Balenciaga, Sculpteurs de la forme. An exhibition where are displayed 80 models created by the tow designers and displayed for the first time in this layout.

Coming from the archives created by Azzedine Alaïa, the different pieces of Balenciaga are displayed within the fashion house “today’s headquarters of the association looking after his memory and work”. Creations talking to one another in a surprising fashion. And for good reason: in 1968, Balenciaga announces out of the blue they are closing as ready-to-wear was not the success they were expecting; many pieces are thought to be thrown away or sold, and Azzedine Alaïa decides to get them. These models, Alaïa keeps them very preciously and will be inspired by them to design his own creations.

An exhibition that, after Paris, will travel to Spain in July 2020 at the Balenciaga Foundation set in Guetaria, the village that saw this Haute Couture genius be born. The occasion to discover two fashion popes and learn more about Azzedine Alaïa’s inspirations. Let’s go, friends, shall we?
