Touch fire. Women potters in Japan

For centuries in Japan, the practice of ceramics was exclusively reserved for men , forbidden for women. It is only after World War II , with deep social evolutions, that they were allowed to access training which enabled them to « touch fire ». The first generation of Japanese women who dedicated themselves to ceramics mostly combined academic art training and traditional apprenticeship with a master.
