Exhibition: Shamans and Divinities
The shaman, this priest with supernatural powers, is the subject of an exhibition at the musée du quai Branly. Until May 15th 2016, “Shamans and Divinities” suggests us to take an interest in the role of this character in pre-Columbian America. By doing rites, ceremonies and other festivals, he established an order both spiritual and social on the ancestral population in Ecuador. The shaman accompanied these people at different stages of their life: healing or fertility rituals but also rites of initiation. This is the occasion for the visitors to understand all the nuances of shamanism, but also to admire the ornaments and the costume wore by the shaman. This retrospective thus presents works from several cultures: Tolita, Bahia, Chorrera and Jama-Coaque.
