The impressionist décor – The sources of the Nymphéas


Impressionism is seldom associated with the notion of decoration, neither with walls, objects, fans, ceramics nor with any bas-reliefs. Nevertheless, certain impressionist works considered nowadays as easel paintings - landscapes, flowers or modern life scenes - were initially created with the aim of decorating. Feeling concerned with the part played by beauty in everyday life, the impressionist artists turned towards this field of experimentation, and ventured to explore various mediums and all the possibilities these offered.
