Exhibition: La mode retrouvée, les Robes trésors de la Comtesse Greffulhe
After Jeanne Lanvin, The Palais Galliera takes an interest in another great woman in Fashion: Countess Greffulhe. Born Elisabeth de Caraman-Chimay (1860-1952), the most beautiful woman of Paris was known both for her elegance and her mind. She moved on to posterity thanks to Marcel Proust in his famous book: A la recherche du temps perdu (In search of lost time). In this work, the Countess is personified by the character of the Duchess of Guermantes. The musée de la mode displays around fifty outfits (coats, day and evening dresses, home-wears, accessories etc.) which belonged to her, branded Lanvin, Worth or Fortuny. Portraits, movies and photographs are also shown. The Countess was very ahead of her time and knew how to stage her appearances, becoming scarce, daring the oriental patterns, the Kimono jackets, tones of silver, gold, pink, green or fascinating materials as feathers, muslin or tulle.
