Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal are at Chaillot
From March 9th to 17th 2017, the dancers from the Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal will be on the stage of the Théâtre National de Chaillot to present “La Jeune Fille et la Mort” (“The young girl and the death”), a dance-ode to life, choreographed by Stephan Thoss.
Between life and death
Since its birth, humanity is fascinated by death. This anxiety, that is what Stephan Thoss wanted to explore through the theme of the cycle of life. Death is unavoidable, it happens to absolutely everyone and yet it obsesses us, it is both fascinating and frightening to us. The stage director questions therefore the reason of this fear: is it death in itself or the fear not to have accomplish something of our life that terrifies us? The choreograph creates in this way a connexion between life and death, the only way to assimilate this anxiety. The dancers are moving in a large and fluent way and sometimes stop for dignified pauses, dedicated to thinking. A dance brilliantly interpreted by one of the most renowned contemporary dance company of the 21st century, to discover just a few blocks away from the Green Hotels Paris, the Eiffel Trocadéro and the Gavarni.
