Exhibition: Olafur Eliasson
Every year since 2008, the Château de Versailles consecrates a retrospective to a French or foreign contemporary artist. This summer, it is the turn of the Danish artist Olafur Eliasson to take possession of the premises, from June 7th to October 30th, 2016. He is internationally famous for his spectacular installations like “The weather project” (2003) which was presented at London’s Tate Modern. In Versailles, he unveils “Waterfall” at the Grand Canal, a waterfall which seems to float in the air. To be discovered too: “Fog Assembly” at the Star Grove, then “Glacial Rock Flour Garden” at the Colonnade Grove. As Olafur Eliasson specifies it “The artworks liquefy the formal design of the gardens while reviving one of landscape architect André Le Nôtre’s original, unrealised visions: the placement of a waterfall along the axis of the Grand Canal." He also explains that the Versailles he has been dreaming of requests from visitors “to exercise their senses, to embrace the unexpected, to drift through the gardens, and to feel the landscape take shape through their movement.”
