For its newest exhibition dedicated to artists' mannequins from the 18th century to the present day, the Parisian Musée Bourdelle presents over 150 works. Photographs by Man Ray and Denise Bellon, plates from the Encyclopédie, paintings by Courbet, Burne-Jones or Gainsborough, patents... this rich retrospective gives the opportunity to understand the story of these mannequins in art. Incidentally, in the late 18th century, Paris became the center for manufacturing full-size mannequins that faithfully imitated the human body. The artists use them in their creative process, playing with their realistic, almost unsettling aspect.
