Exhibition: The open-air studio – Impressionists in Normandy

Until July 25th next, the musée Jacquemart-André takes an interest in the importance of Normandy in the artworks of impressionist painters. For the occasion, about fifty paintings are exposed, including masterpieces of Monet, Degas, Renoir or Pissaro. We also discover how was born in the XIXth century a new pictorial genre, the outdoor landscape, and how Normandy has become the meeting place of these great artists. Like this, it is in the wooded Norman countryside that Degas painted its first horse race, in the Haras-du-Pin (Orne), or that Manet revolutionises the marine painting in Cherbourg (Manche). Divided in two parts, one historical and one geographical, this exhibition highlights the exceptional landscapes and lights offered by this North of France region, explaining to us the fascination it exerted on the impressionists.
