DISCO
Disco music emerged in the United States in the early 1970s and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. This exhibition, far from stereotypes, highlights the intensity and richness of this musical genre deeply rooted in African-American history and culture, and heir to soul, gospel and funk. Audiovisual archives, photographs, instruments and costumes illustrate both the political and festive aspects of this music, which brought together minorities and different social classes on the dancefloor, united by a shared desire to celebrate. With a soundtrack specially mixed by Dimitri from Paris, the exhibition also highlights the aesthetic impact of disco on the work of artists and designers.
