Au bout du champ: fruit and vegetable vending machines in Paris!

With two shops located in Paris and its close suburb Levallois-Perret, Au bout du champ is behind an innovative and attractive concept, which provides city-dwellers with fresh fruits and vegetables. Do not expect to be greeted by a seller or even notice a counter in these shops; what you will find, however, is a row of see-through compartments the shape of mailboxes containing a diversity of products ranging from a sack of potatoes to a jar of jam. This concept resembles that of the regular vending machines one usually finds in stations and other public places, but instead of containing sodas and sweets, these machines are filled with fresh fruits and vegetables produced in Ile-de-France, some 100 kilometers from their points of sale.

A fun and insightful operating system
Getting these machines to work is a real piece of cake. All you need to do is enter the number of the compartment you would like to order on a terminal and pay. The compartment then opens and you can retrieve its content. There is no need for you to be registered online to consume Au bout du champ’s products, nor do you need to abide by a weekly schedule to retrieve your food, but you can create your own meal by placing your order directly on the shop’s website a day prior.

Celebrating its early success, Au bout du champ is planning to open four new points of sale in 2015. The fruit and vegetable vending machines do seem to have a bright future ahead of them!
