Green Bird: The association which cleans the streets of Paris

It’s with the motto “keep clean, keep green” that the association Green Bird knew how to convince several French people to clean Parisian streets with … some Japanese people and expatriates! Established for almost 10 years in the capital, this organisation from Tokyo wants to raise the Parisians’ awareness on street cleanliness. Ready for a one-hour session?

“A clean town also makes people’s hearts and minds cleaned”
Once a month, it’s armed with bin bags, gloves and vests in the colours of the association that the volunteers tackle a Parisian quarter. Every nook is cleared of its cigarette butts or wrapping papers. Imported from the Land of the Rising Sun where outdoor cleanliness is an integral part of the local culture, this initiative attracted a large number of citizens concerned about their environment. The Champs-Elysées are a part of the first ones witnessing these brooms. At the request of several convinced inhabitants, the more discreet residential areas also have the right now to be cleaned! The aim? Make Parisians aware that they can themselves make these gestures, without competing the capital’s cleaning services. Interested in joining them? Nothing simpler! You just have to commit yourself to never throwing something on the ground and pick up every rubbish you see.
