Exhibition: Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands

For the first time in France, the musée du quai Branly is consecrating an important exhibition on Marquesas Islands. Over the centuries, this Polynesian archipelago constantly fascinated the artists, whether they are singers like Jacques Brel, painters like Paul Gauguin, musicians or writers. 300 objects and works of art are presented until next July 24th, showing what the Marquesan aesthetic is. These pieces enable to understand what the everyday life of these ancestral peoples from the other end of the world was, but also their art and culture. This enthralling retrospective named “Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands” can be visited on the other bank of the Seine, just nearby the Green Hotels Paris, the Eiffel Trocadéro and the Gavarni, not far from the Eiffel Tower and the Champ-de-Mars.

Exhibition “Matahoata, Arts and Society in the Marquesas Islands”, from April 12th to July 24th 2016.
Open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
Nocturnal on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 9pm.
Full rate: €9 / Reduced rate: €7.
