Balzac resuscitated thanks to Bertrand Leclair!

May 18th, 2012 by admin

While la Maison de Balzac is currently closed for renovations, novelist Bertrand Leclair in association with the Societé des amis de Balzac and with the house, pays tribute to the great literary man throughout writer’s residencies. A unique opportunity to discover in a more contemporary way, the works of Honoré de Balzac, and notably le Cousin Pons. Through a half-cinematographic half-musical remake, we ask ourselves how would be Le Cousin Pons of our days, what would he collect and how he would live. Literature comes to life thanks to the Résidence d´écrivain de Balzac! (Balzac’s writer residency).
Balzac was a true Paris lover. The proof here!

Berthe Morisot: the visionary impressionist

May 11th, 2012 by admin

Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), one of the most inventive impressionists, she’s the only artist that knew how to make the link between Renoir’s designs and Manet’s dissolution of form. Her exhibition that will be displayed until July 1st 2012 at the Marmottan Museum, goes back to the subjects that marked her life, from her daughter Julie to the landscapes she loved so much.

To know: This is the first retrospective dedicated to the artist in 50 years! One more reason not to miss it.

Discover the life of Georges Clemenceau

May 9th, 2012 by admin

The Musée Clemenceau is now welcoming director Olivier Guinard for the shoot of his TV film “Clemenceau” with Didier Bezace, that will be broadcasted on France 3 at the end of 2012. But before being a film set, the museum is above all a place of history!

Clemenceau, the tiger
Classified as a historic monument, it includes the apartment of Georges Clemenceau commonly knick named “the tiger” for his courage. The French statesman lived here for 34 years, until his death in 1929. The museum also contains a documentary gallery retracing his life, his struggles and his memories, his career as a journalist, his passion for travel and art. Conserved exactly as it was since his death, his apartment still has a glimpse of his aura, where you can even see his coat and the gaiters he wore in the front of the First World War. High point of the visit: the famous garden where he loved to take fresh with the company of his dogs. A charming place to discover for all of those that dream of being a politician…

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Full rate: 6€ / Reduced rate: 3€ (-25 years old)) /Free for children under 12.

Fête de la Nature at the service of birds

April 27th, 2012 by admin

For the 6th edition of the Fête de la Nature (Nature’s Party), the “Drôle d´oiseaux” (or funny birds) are being honored. This year, the intention is to install 10 000 nests from now to June in order to help the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (League of bird protection) that’s celebrating its 100 years in action.

Become an ornithologist!

From 9-13 May, the organizers will invite you to watch birds, to imitate them or to recognize their song, but also to arrange the settings that will be welcoming them at the top of buildings or at the end of gardens this summer. The calling of this edition is the rarefaction of natural nesting sights, as a response to the disappearing of natural meadows, to the mass destruction of trees, hedges and groves, or even to the demolition and renovation of old houses. It’s so hard for numerous species to find a place to nest. What’s more beautiful than waking up in the morning to the song of a bird? Friends of nature, lets get to work!

In a magical setting, halfway between tradition and modernity, thought out by interior designer Bruno Tanquerel, you’re invited to travel to Southeast Asia and discover one of the richest and most colorful gastronomies.

Kura: the best Japanese place in Paris

April 18th, 2012 by admin

You dream of discovering the real Japanese gastronomy? At the Gavarni Hotel, we know a great place suggested by Gilles Pudlowski himself on his blog. At Kura´s you’ll witness a unique culinary experience in a modern and Zen atmosphere. Here they’re notorious for the culinary art kaiseki (several little dishes served at the same time), mixing French and Japanese flavors. The minute you taste these delicacies, you’ll feel an immediate take off to Osaka or Kyoto.

Good to know: in the evening, the place offers a unique menu, renewed each month according to the season’s products. Also know that the restaurant does not allow children under ten, just to keep it Zen.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from noon till 2p.m., and from 7:30p.m. till 10:30p.m.
Open Sundays and holidays from 12:30p.m. till 2:30p.m, and from 7p.m. till 9:30p.m.
Terrace opens from March to September.
Tasting Menu at 55€.

Visit of the Musée National de la Marine

November 14th, 2011 by admin

Known as one of the oldest maritime museums (with the Saint Petersburg), the Musée National de la Marine contains a large collection of ship models, navigational instruments, paintings, sculptures and art items. From the Napoleon’s Imperial barge to the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, via the stern decoration of La Réale, the museum offers a detailed view based on more than 350 years of French shipbuilding. It reveals the greatest technological advances as well as all generations of ships designed by the maritime engineering. Punctuated by temporary exhibitions as diverse as varied, we sail to all skylines, both in the universe of Jules Verne, as in the pirate boats or toy boats. Professional, amateur or enthusiast, museum attracts all generations attentive to maritime heritage. A whole new world where we begin to dream, sailing on the ocean in search of an island still untouched.

Interview of Yannick Papin, Chef of The Restaurant Bon

November 11th, 2011 by admin

After design, make way for cuisine! Yannick Papin has begun to work in catering when he was 15 years old. After having worked in starred restaurants, he became chef at 24 years old, in the Michel Rostang’s kitchens, and he stayed for 7 years. Ambitious and determined, Yannick Papin has chosen to work for a big firm. When he met Philippe Amzalac, by chance, owner of Bon since 2005, he became the chef of his restaurant. Concerned about giving a real culinary identity to the restaurant, they reinvented the menu, and suggested a fusion cuisine, midway between Asian tastes turn toward Thailand and European tastes. His dishes are as good as beautiful, inspired from his experiences in the starred restaurants but most specifically from his travels. Big lover of Asian culture, he goes to Asia twice a year.

His plans? In less than 6 months, another restaurant will be raised in the flea market at Saint-Ouen, near antiquarians. Of course, he will be the chef but the cuisine provided will be different. Don’t worry, we’ll talk until then!

To know him better, Yannick has accepted to answer to our 100% gourmet Chinese portrait. Pay attention, flood of secrets!

1. A feast is not a feast when…
Some people are missing, a feast is generous and consequently, must be shared with friends.
2. Your favorite dish?
A rib steak.
3. Your favorite condiment in Asian cuisine?
The Thai basil, fresh and a bit spicy.
4. The recipe that make talk about you?
My Truffle sandwich.
5. Your favorite dessert?
A coffee éclair.
6. Your best gourmet memory?
It was in 2007, during a stay at a friend’s home, starred chef of the Château de Germigney, in the Jura. He stewed a fowl with truffles, my father used to cook it this way. This day, I almost cried.
7. In my kitchen there is always…
Nutella!
8. I’m ashamed but I love it!
Sausage… It is fatal when I come home around midnight.
9. Last time that I cook to seduce…
Scallops with Truffles.
10. My next dining out…
At Guy Savoy.

Greenpride : Now the Ecology also has its Festival !

October 20th, 2011 by admin

Just as the Gaypride and the Technoparade, why the Ecology would not be celebrated? After all, why in the world would environmentalism necessarily rhyme with pessimism? This is what underlines the Collectif Appel de la Jeunesse, an association created in 2009, by setting the first Greenpride. Happy Ecology could be a good way to tackle the main issues combining health and environment… In any case, we want to believe it! So, it will take place on Sunday October 23, 2011. Among the key events there will be a brunch organized in partnership with organic producers from Ile-de-France at la Villettte Enchantée, the brand new spot of the parc de la Villette. There will be also a carnival parade, eco-designed, everywhere in Paris, with Greenpeace and GoodPlanet, and pop-rock concerts at the Trianon. Who said that Ecology was boring?

More: Between November 7 and December 16, 2011, meetings and debates on environmental and health issues are organized in the Paris area colleges and business schools (Sciences-Po, Dauphine, ESSEC …). They will be led by researchers, scientists and so on.

The Greenpride will take place on Sunday October 23, 2011.
