Dreamed Cities, Sustainable Cities: what makes the citizens happy?

November 11th, 2009 by admin

Until March 7th, 2010, the EDF Foundation Diversiterre offers an exhibition dedicated to the city of tomorrow and sometimes conflicting aspirations of city-dwellers. In view of the multiple challenges faced by specialists in land settlement today, it is important to ask how to reconcile the aspirations of citizens and the imperatives of sustainable development. Now-a-days, land settlement corresponds to mobility problems, waste management, pollution and requires the creation of social housing. However, 82% of the French consider individual housing as ideal.

A clear preference that contrasts however with the strong attraction to cities for their services, jobs, culture, education, shopping and healthcare. Moreover, it is necessary to take into account the consequences accruing from the suburban sprawl areas: consumption of natural areas and high dependency to transport (car, train and bus combined). But city life is not the whole solution: overcrowding, insecurity, lack of green areas, pollution of all kinds etc.

The exhibition “Dream cities, Sustainable cities” offers keys to understand what is at stake in the city of tomorrow, and therefore, your daily life.

Free admission, daily from noon to 7pm (except Mondays and holidays).

George Condo exhibits at Musee Maillol

June 3rd, 2009 by admin

When the rain appears, going to a museum seems to be the ideal place to hide. But what about when it’s sunny? Musee Maillol, in the heart of Paris, allows the visitor to enjoy a museum without having the feeling of being trapped. The rooms open onto a large paved courtyard, where a steel statue by Lu Zheng, “Mao still standing” is. The exhibition that everyone talks about is by the American artist George Condo, inspired by past to redesign the present. It brilliantly combines recognized academic technology with cartoons or comic books. His characters call you by their expressions, a reflection of their soul. Added to this event, the permanent exhibition of the Master Maillol proudly adorning the museum with his sculptures of women in the air. A meeting between art and nature.
