Fête de la Nature at the service of birds

27 April 2012 by admin

For the 6th edition of the Fête de la Nature (Nature’s Party), the “Drôle d´oiseaux” (or funny birds) are being honored. This year, the intention is to install 10 000 nests from now to June in order to help the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (League of bird protection) that’s celebrating its 100 years in action.

Become an ornithologist!

From 9-13 May, the organizers will invite you to watch birds, to imitate them or to recognize their song, but also to arrange the settings that will be welcoming them at the top of buildings or at the end of gardens this summer. The calling of this edition is the rarefaction of natural nesting sights, as a response to the disappearing of natural meadows, to the mass destruction of trees, hedges and groves, or even to the demolition and renovation of old houses. It’s so hard for numerous species to find a place to nest. What’s more beautiful than waking up in the morning to the song of a bird? Friends of nature, lets get to work!

La Fête de la Nature, 9-13 May 2012, everywhere in France.

The Seine: the quintessential living space

20 April 2012 by admin

The Seine has inspired for centuries a good number of directors and artists, and recently M and Vanessa Paradis´ song “La Seine”, from the film “A monster in Paris”. Did you know that besides cruises and bateaux-mouches, the Seine is home to mounts and marvels? And now, a little tour.

Water transportation
For strong ecological reasons, water transport, which consumes little energy, is an alternative to city traffic hence to Paris traffic. Silent and reliable, it allows the transportation of food and cars. The city counts with 20 harbors (Port de Bercy, de la Bourdonnais…), and their activity is linked to 99% of the BTP.

Cruises and strolls along the riverside
Not one tourist misses the chance of a Bateaux-mouches tour on the Seine! Inescapable, this cruise will let you admire the capital’s monuments from an unseen angle, day and night. Grab your cameras! You’ll also be able to stroll through the banks, on Sundays and during the whole summer.

Canal boats, a sleeping place
Want to live in an unusual way? It’s possible to live in a canal boat, anchored at the Seine´s docks! Sleep like a baby cradled by the flow of the water, this can become a reality for people with all kinds of pockets. Certain luxury canal boats, conceived as contemporary lofts with modern comfort, can be sold for millions of euros!

Kura: the best Japanese place in Paris

18 April 2012 by admin

You dream of discovering the real Japanese gastronomy? At the Gavarni Hotel, we know a great place suggested by Gilles Pudlowski himself on his blog. At Kura´s you’ll witness a unique culinary experience in a modern and Zen atmosphere. Here they’re notorious for the culinary art kaiseki (several little dishes served at the same time), mixing French and Japanese flavors. The minute you taste these delicacies, you’ll feel an immediate take off to Osaka or Kyoto.

Good to know: in the evening, the place offers a unique menu, renewed each month according to the season’s products. Also know that the restaurant does not allow children under ten, just to keep it Zen.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from noon till 2p.m., and from 7:30p.m. till 10:30p.m.
Open Sundays and holidays from 12:30p.m. till 2:30p.m, and from 7p.m. till 9:30p.m.
Terrace opens from March to September.
Tasting Menu at 55€.

The rose garden of Parc de Bagatelle

13 April 2012 by admin

We recently talked to you about Parc de Bagatelle, where nature claimed its rights. Today, it’s the home of one of the marvels in the Parisian west: la Roseraie de Bagatelle (or Bagatelle’s Rose Garden).

A century old rose garden
A work from the French landscape architect Jean-Claude-Nicolas Forestier (1861-1930), Bagatelle’s Rose Garden opened in 1907. At the time, he was the “Parks and gardens from the City of Paris“ curator, in the role of city planner. Afterwards, this place became one of the most reputable and well-known rose gardens in the world. It shelters 1 100 types of roses.

An international competition
Every year in June, the international competition of new roses is organized, dedicated to new types of rose bushes. In 1983, a second rose garden was built in the north part of Parc de Bagatelle, designated for landscape rose bushes. Another competition takes place for that matter in order to reward these rustic rose bushes.

Roseraie de Bagatelle / Parc de Bagatelle
42, route de Sèvres à Neuilly
75016 Paris
France
