How to have the Planet Attitude

January 28th, 2011 by admin

« We don’t inherit from the the land of our ancestors, we borrow it to our children”, Those words by St Exupery are becoming more and more real these days.A faucet opened for 3 mn represent 12 bottles of 1.5 L of water. This exemple among thousands gives us food for thoughts.Every little action is important, as we can understand by reading the guide called “Planet Attitude”.The consequences of our daily actions on the environment are all mentionned, as well as the alternatives we should adopt. The specialist from WWF, the independant organisation defending the environment, is giving us a list of 500 daily actions that are simply common sense and good for our health and help reduce our ecological footprint.Because our kids are part of these future generations, making them aware of the environmental issue is key. They to will therefore participate to the protection of the planet and its inhabitants. The WWF wrote a book specially adressed to kids, called “Planete Attitude Junior”, a guide with advice, funny but yet striking stories, riddles, and so much more about animals that amazes them today, but might become just a memory tomorrow…

The little extra : the guide was realised on FSC paper (a international label garantying a green friendly management of the forests at every level :financial, social and green), and with non toxic vegetal inks, and working with a green friendly printing company who has obtained the label “Imprim’Vert”(IME)

« Planète Attitude. Les gestes écologiques au quotidien » by Thierry Thouenot and Gaëlle Bouttier-

« Planète Attitude Junior. Pour protéger la nature et ses animaux » by the same authors

Mr Goodfish at Auguste

January 19th, 2011 by admin

It is time to think about responsible fish consumption, so the Centre National de la Mer NAUSICAA (public aquarium, center of scientific and technical discovery of the marine environment located in Boulogne-sur-mer, France) partnered with the Chef Gaël Orieux to launch its European project “Mr Goodfish”, in order to sensitize people to a responsible fishing. Fascinated by the sea and its products, Gabriel Orieux, coming from Brittany, invents a perfect harmonious “land-sea cuisine” everyday in his restaurant Auguste, rue de Bourgogne. His first concern is the respect for nature : synthetic aromas are banished, and less fine fishes are introduced on the menu, in order to replace the sea basses and other soles according to the abundance and the season. Here is an unavoidable address!

Opened from Monday to Friday. Closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Noon : menu at 35€.
A la carte : between 60 and 80€.

Green awareness in the luxury hotels and in the Hollywood business environment.

January 18th, 2011 by admin

Xavier Moraga, the manager of the Hotel Gavarni and the green hotel Eiffel Trocadéro is committed to transform his Parisian hotels into green hotels. He won the European Ecolabel and the Excellence Award of Tripadvisor. His friend, Paige Donner, is the creator of the blogs Greening Hollywood and Green Blog Network. The green awareness in the United States is already set in the minds and many stars commit in the fight against global warming. The great chains like the boutique hotels more and more commit on some points, the “green keys”, like the waste recycling, the use of less water, the purchase of bio and local products. Travelers and tourists choose the green hotels because they feel better, but they don’t want to lower the quality of the services they are accustomed to. Involvement : Yes. Loss of quality : No. Paris has everything to gain by becoming more green and by developing its offer in hotel trade because the guests are more and more responsible, and Paris stays the most beautiful city of the world, and also the most visited!

Paige Donner is an L.A. based journalist, writer and filmmaker. Having worked as an entertainment journalist since the early 90′s when she first started writing for Variety, Paige is now focusing on Greening Hollywood, her media platform that reports on the ways the entertainment industry is embracing a more sustainable and environmentally respectful way of doing business.
Paige is convinced that having lived as a child in countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Japan and the U.S. territory of Guam and then as a young adult in countries such as France and Germany, has profoundly shaped the way she sees and interprets the world.

Made In(ternational) by Prada

January 10th, 2011 by admin

It is true that when you talk about clothes « made in China » people think”low quality clothes”.Nevertheless, “made in France” clothes are less and less affordable. The newspaper Le Monde annonced recently that only less than 5% of the “ready to wear” sold in France is still”made in France” (you have to know that one minute of manufacturing is 70 times more expensive here that in a country like Thaïland for exemple) That’s why Prada, with it’s new line”made in…” decided to restore the credibility of the “made in China”, by enhancing the work of local craftsmen in some countries. In total collaboration with those craftsmen, Prada offers with its new line a collection of jeans called “Prada made in Japan”, a collection of tartan kilts, “Prada made in Scotland”, a collection of embroidered dresses, “Prada made in India”, and a line of alpaca meshes “Prada made in Peru”. Wearing Prada is a little like travelling around the world through the art of craftsmen who truly deserve to be finally under the spotlight.

Walk in Paris around the Hotel Gavarni and the Trocadéro : Vélib’, Eiffel Tower and breakdance !

January 7th, 2011 by admin

According to Xavier Moraga, the manager of the green hotels Gavarni and Eiffel Trocadéro, the best way to discover Paris is the Vélib’! You just have to subscribe at a Vélib’ stand with your credit card, or go to a reception situated in the great metro stations. He explains to his friend from LA, Paige Donner, the creator of the website Greening Hollywood, how to best use the Parisian public transports. Of course, there is the metro, but also the RER, the suburban lines which are fast and practical if you plan to visit Fontainebleau, the Bois de Boulogne or the Bois de Vincennes, or go to Disneyland Paris with the children during the family trips…
But the best way to stroll in Paris is on foot. There is nothing like the pleasure to walk in the squares and the beautiful avenues of the capital, take a few photos in front of the historical monuments and contemplate the grandiose landscapes of the City Of Love !

On a personal plan, Xavier Moraga is a man firmly committed to ecology. He has made every effort to apply these principles in his profession. He started his profession as a receptionist 11 years ago, and now he is the manager of the Hotel Gavarni, a hotel which stands since 1908. Thanks to his work and his convictions, it became the first independent hotel in Paris winner of the European Ecolabel and an Excellence Award on Tripadvisor, in the Green rubric. Pioneer in the field, he opened a second green hotel at the Trocadéro, equipped with solar panels; never seen before in Paris. The Hotel Gavarni and the Hotel Eiffel Trocadéro are luxury and charming establishments, but 100% green.
