New decoration at the hotel Gavarni

November 25th, 2010 by admin

The hotel Gavarni has just renovated 4 rooms, still by calling upon the interior decorator
Anne-Sophie Robert. The hotel has a new face, and now displays a contemporary decoration.

Tell us about the new contemporary aspect of the Hotel Gavarni.
Anne-Sophie Robert :
The Hotel Gavarni now has a contemporary style in 4 of its rooms. Xavier Moraga, the hotel director, allowed me to realize them. I was able to decorate them as I wanted, mainly working the patinas, which I make myself. Thus, the rooms are more luminous notably thanks to the furniture, more design. For example, the offices have been made in acrylic panels, and I have included lace collages. It is a difficult and unique process. Moreover, the acrylic can contain only natural materials like in the hotel bathrooms, decorated with an acrylic panel composed of plants. The lamps look like chandeliers. Finally, the color is ubiquitous, because, to me, “color is life” !

The entire hotel will be redecorated on the same model ?
A.S.R. :
Yes, the rooms will be gradually renovated in this decoration spirit. Despite the fact that they will have the same themes, each one will be conceived in its own patina or color shade, because I make my mixtures myself. Thus, each work is different, nuanced : they will never be the same because of my mixtures.

Does ecology influence your daily work ?
A.S.R. :
Yes, working with the Hotel Gavarni particularly made me aware concerning ecology, in my work and also in my personal life. Among other things, I really would like to work with organic paintings, but so far, I do not have a favorite. However, I use a lot the water paint. I also apply the ecofriendly actions everyday.

I’m getting some air ! I’m in my plant bubble !

November 24th, 2010 by admin

Winter is fast approaching, the trees are loosing their leaves, we quickly need oxygen ! I want green ! My bubble ! The concrete dominates the Parisian roads, so nature wants to gain the upper hand, and the French are determined to help it. They are 8/10 to make their living space greener in order to recharge their batteries, forget their daily stress and thus being in harmony with themselves and also with their environment. It is then natural that vegetable capsules of 60m3, imagined by the plant designer Amaury Gallon, came like spaceships from elsewhere to land all over Paris. All over Paris means four different atmospheres. Don’t hesitate, come to get your air free, with complete impunity, and discover the plants in the capsules for a fifteen minutes break. Like for the Jardins de Babylone, Amaury Gallon, a true environmental visionary, takes the right decisions and nicely encourage us to the natural way.

A little extra : Try to win a green breakfast for two persons in the most unusual bubble of the moment. See it on the website.

Place Saint-Germain : Bulle aérienne ( Air Bubble )
Bercy Village : Bulle psychédélique ( Psychedelic Bubble )
Gare Montparnasse : Bulle jungle ( Jungle Bubble )
Place Colette : Bulle précieuse ( Precious Bubble )

Internet is polluting, let’s find solutions quickly !

November 22nd, 2010 by admin

You like e mails, instant messaging, network games, or simply internet ?
Yes you are utterly modern, and yes you use less paper. But is internet really green friendly? When you see the results, it is far from certain. The biggest companies on the net are concerned about this and taking actions. Thank God, some websites are here to guide our first steps toward a greener internet.
Because servers always need to be supplied in electricity, the biggest companies use energy coming from coal, called fossil energy. The needs increase with the number of people connected. For exemple, every Google search produces 7g of CO2.
According to a report written by Harvard scientists, the industry of information and communication technology is responsible today of producing 2% of the CO2 emissions worldwide, which is the equivalent of the consumption of the airline industry ! From now on the development of internet and the huge number of data storage centers will increase the gas emissions by 3!
According to the Harvard scientists, spending even only one hour less on internet will decrease the worldwide electricity consumption by 14%!
To solve this problem many companies are trying to invest in renewable energies, for exemple by finding new ways of organizing the data bases, as well as new ways of cooling off the servers.
On top of that there are websites now who are there to help the net surfers to respect the environment
In that mind set, the Slowsurf website gives a few tips to surf easily while reducing out carbon footprint
And that way becoming a true « green surfer » For all the professionals working on the net, and all the other inveterate bloggers, Greenlt will help you manage a much greener site, especially by supplying it with renewable energies.

Smart Grids Technologies are helping companies to know precisely, and in real time, the production and consuption of electricity. It is now possible to manage the needs in energy, the time when the consumption is the highest and the storage capacities. With such a technology, we could save up to 12% of the energy spent and reduce the CO2 emissions by the year 2030.

That way, Google hopes that people will look at their consumption differently and change their behavior as a result.

The French are on the verge of an electric revolution

November 10th, 2010 by admin

The World Motor Show took place last October in Paris. During this year’s edition, everybody was focused on the new electric car revolution. No less than 1.2 millions of visitors came to admire those new technological gems, and drive them as well! They took 11 000 drives with those cars, in order to discover green driving. Indeed, this new technology offers undeniable advantages, but it also has its drawbacks. Let’s see what the first people concerned, the drivers, think about it.
A recent survey from Institut LH2 for Metro reveals that 7 French people out of 10 would buy an electric car if it was the same price as the others. This proportion is even higher among richer homes.

Photo : ipag.fr

The first obstacle seems to be the price, because those cars are really expensive, so it’s hard for a large family for example to get one.
If it’s true that in terms of energy, using those cars allows a saving of EUR 2 for 100 Km, buying them still costs a lot of money : prices start at EUR 30 000, even if you deduct the super bonus of EUR 5000 granted by the government until 2012. Not to mention that the day will come when the success of electric cars will represent too many expenses for the government, so there are chances that they will tax the electricity used for those cars.
Nevertheless, in terms of protection of the environment, the electric car is very efficient: since they don’t have muffler, they don’t reject noxious gas, and in France, electricity is coming mostly from nuclear and hydraulic energy. This is far from being the case in the rest of the world, where fossil energies is still used a lot. The electric car is not yet the solution to counter global warming, but it should become more and more so with the progressive use of renewable energies such as solar or aeolian energy.

Photo :
cachecentric.net

The last obstacle is the autonomy of the electric cars, still reduced by the battery. Officially they can drive a distance of 160km, with an average speed of 34km/h, and an ideal temperature of 20 °C, but those figures are not always true. In winter for example, you have to deduct at least a third of the announced figure, so count about 80km of real autonomy, which still remains enough for most daily trips in France. People will also need a garage equipped with a plug and a car with thermal engine for longer trips.

Photo : futura-sciences.com

Even though electric cars are expensive, they lack autonomy and there not enough facitities to manage a fleet of such vehicles, French people always remain optimistic, as it is revealed by a survey made by Ernst and Young Consultants. 85% out of the 25% of the 4000 people who are favorable to using hybrid cars think is a long term solution in terms of fuel savings, while 65% think it will help protect the environment. So we will follow this matter closely.
