Jamet’s loves Planet: the expert in organic breakfast

June 26th, 2009 by admin

On which criteria are the clients most demanding? Breakfast it is, because it is an important moment of the day and commonly the last thing we see before check out of the hotel. The brand created by the Bristol Palace former land owner Pierre Jammet has reinvented the hotelier services when it comes to breakfast. For the last 5 years, Jerome Stefanello has been running the business and has specialized the brand in the organic industry. Why? Because it is the lifestyle that he leads everyday, and because the link between food and nature should be obvious and natural.

Jammet provides the Gavarni hotel with cereals (presented in design distributors in order to avoid packaging that is noxious to the environment), stewed fruit and jam. This committed firm has an objective: “offer custom-made products and maintain a close relation with the clients, in order to stand out from standard offers and the influence of big brand of food-processing”.

Although it is hard to convince small breeders to participate in this green movement, Jerome Stefanello tries to convert people he meets and make them join him in this cause for excellence and safe products. Let’s also mention that the more stars a hotel has, the more we pay attention to its participation in preserving the environment! Another element in the search for excellence and quality.

Labels, know them

June 22nd, 2009 by admin

Today more than ever the consumer likes to know what he has on his plate. But he is also curious about the origin of his clothes or the fate of the packaging. Thus, the label is a way to know this information but can you recognize them? Because a nice message on a green button is eye-catching, some unscrupulous brands do not hesitate to post fake labels. Here are a range of those certified and recognized that you can fully trust. In the field of nutrition. AOC, Label Rouge and AB are well known, but some large chains have launched their own label such as Auchan, Casino and Carrefour. We also mention a mark established in 1974, Nature et Progrès, which guarantees the animal and vegetal products free of synthetic chemical inputs. Finally, the Marine Stewardship Council label, an initiative of WWF, fights the phenomenon of overfishing.

Is eating sushi eco-friendly?

June 20th, 2009 by admin

The Japanese wave invaded France with its sushi bars. Despite the exquisite flavor of these dishes, it may leaves a taste… of guilt in your mouth. Indeed, who says popularity, says overfishing. The website MesCoursesPourLaPlanete.com has a guide to advice on how to consume food. In addition to respecting the life cycle of the species on the basis of good seasons, the guide invites you to make sure that the way your sushi is prepared does not waste too much energy. For example, prefer fresh fish rather than frozen fish because no freezer neither microwave will be used. Similarly, choose a restaurant that serves fish limited to French transportation.
However, this guide does not really talk about threatened fishes, because it is assumed that you just avoid eating them (tuna, salmon, sea bream …).
Finally, ask the chef if the fish has an organic label for breeding or MSC to the wild. Otherwise, try to raise awareness of this cause, perhaps he will also organic?

Compact: eco-friendly trend

June 16th, 2009 by admin

A green wind coming straight from San Francisco and has been established in France since March 2008. It is the movement known as “Compact” which aim is to reduce the consumption of each of us. It is a philosophy group that applies to all individuals and volunteers wishing to work for the planet. The principle is simple: avoid buying so-called useless items for a year. With the exception of food and underwear, it is possible to recover used items. While the latest cellular is dead after 3 months, the former 3310, a lot less glamorous but more functional, is waiting for you in an old drawer. At a time when vintage is fashion, why not go to where it all starts (your mother’s closet) where tunics and 70’s trousers expect you. This is a simple and convenient action, a challenge available to all…

Days for the Sea

June 13th, 2009 by admin

Under the “Grenelle de la Mer” (Agreement for the Sea), the Ministry of Ecology supports “Les Journées de la Mer” (Days for the Sea) from 8th to 14th of June in France. On this occasion, all the actors of the maritime world are united around the theme “Defending the Sea”. Films, lectures and activities are presented to the four corners of France to sensitize and inform the French. Experts, teachers and scientists will be asked to discuss around round tables. Issues such as pollution or piracy are discussed, followed by the presentation of projects to address these facts. Professionals will launch a website for students to discover the sea and the action to be taken by the Navy. About fifty students of the Ecole Navale will attend the discussions with confirmed officers. This event is supported by the “Pôle Mer Bretagn”e in the framework of the project “I learn the sea”. A week, hopefully, that will remain anchored in our memories and serve as a basis for disseminating information. Because the sea covers over 70% of our planet, it is now important to put it at the heart of our environmental concerns.

June 11th, 2009 by admin

Being green from the cradle is possible! With Oumi, founder of the brand Bebe en Vadrouille, babies dress in organic cotton, wool from Peru or Guatemala. We love the bright colors of the various collections and the hint of Oumi African origins, with the map of Africa represented on few pieces of the brand.
To read: the Bebe en Vadrouille blog where we learn how to use washable diapers or the ecofriendly upcoming events.

Living ecologically

June 9th, 2009 by admin

While our lifestyles tend to lean in favor of energy saving, what about where we live? Since May 13th, Paris hosts a special exhibition on the theme of Living Ecologically. It is intended to inform users of their authority on sustainable development. This event brings together confirmed and talented scientists and architects, to move together towards a common goal. Twenty projects are selected for their eco-efficiency and their beauty to reveal the house of tomorrow. Photos, drawings, films and discussions will allow the visitor to acquire new knowledge to better participate in saving the planet. The exhibition is aimed at a wide audience even if it is preferably to the younger generation so that the relay of the race for sustainable development is optimal. Thus, this exhibition is committed to provide visitors a responsible and aesthetic change in the place of residence. This event shows an opportunity to move towards sustainable development, because ecology should be a lifestyle, not a passing fad.

From May 13th to November 1st 2009.
